Three days in Singapore is the traveller's sweet spot. You have enough time to move beyond the headline attractions and actually feel the rhythm of the city — its hawker breakfast culture, its layered neighbourhood identities, its extraordinary mix of the hypermodern and the quietly ancient. Here is how to spend three days well.
Start with the city's most spectacular modern landmark. Arrive at 9am (opening time) to beat the crowds.
Pro tip: Return in the evening (from around 7:30pm) for the free Garden Rhapsody light show at the Supertrees — one of Singapore's most magical free experiences.
After Gardens by the Bay, walk or take a short drive to the Marina Bay Waterfront:
Singapore's riverside dining precinct comes alive after dark:
Wake up early and head to Tiong Bahru Market & Food Centre (Seng Poh Road) for a local breakfast:
After breakfast, walk through the Tiong Bahru estate — Singapore's oldest public housing neighbourhood, full of 1930s Art Deco–influenced apartment blocks, independent bookshops, and specialty coffee roasters.
Then drive to the Singapore Botanic Gardens — the only tropical botanic garden in the world to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Free entry; the National Orchid Garden (SGD $15) is worth it. Open from 5am to midnight. Allow 1.5–2 hours.
Lunch at Maxwell Food Centre — Tian Tian Chicken Rice is the star; arrive before 12:30pm to beat the queue.
After lunch, explore:
End Day 2 at Satay by the Bay, an outdoor hawker centre adjacent to Gardens by the Bay. Open until midnight; the satay stalls begin at around 4pm.
Order a mixed platter of chicken, mutton, and prawn satay, a cold Tiger beer, and watch the lights of the Marina Bay skyline.
For something completely different from the urban experience of the first two days, begin Day 3 in the forest.
MacRitchie Reservoir is Singapore's oldest reservoir, set within the 3,000-hectare Central Catchment Nature Reserve. The HSBC TreeTop Walk — a 250-metre freestanding suspension bridge 25 metres above the forest floor — is the highlight. The circular trail takes about 1.5–2 hours. Start early (7am) to beat the heat.
Have your VenQ driver drop you at the Lornie Road entrance and collect you at the same point after your walk.
Singapore's resort island is a world unto itself:
For a final dinner worth remembering:
